Connecticut heating oil up 50% in three months as India tenders for US propane through 2027
Connecticut diesel prices hit a record high and home heating oil is up 50% over the past three months, according to the Norwich Bulletin. For a Northeast jobber staring down fill season, that is the number that sets the phones ringing. Customers who locked nothing over the summer are about to feel it, and the callbacks on budget plans start here.
The India tender
Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum floated a joint tender to buy about 2.75 million metric tonnes of LPG from the United States for delivery across 2027, per a document Reuters reviewed. The three want four very large gas carriers a month, roughly 46,000 tonnes each, split evenly between propane and butane on a delivered basis, plus one 45,000-tonne cargo monthly.
This is foreign demand, but it lands on the US balance sheet. American propane increasingly clears through the export docks, and a standing 2027 buyer of that size firms up the pull on Gulf Coast supply. When overseas cargoes have a claim on the barrels, the domestic retail market competes for what is left. Watch whether more of these multi-year tenders show up, because they set a floor under wholesale that a warm winter alone can no longer knock out.
