NGL Energy Partners sells 18 propane terminals as the market weighs a valuation discount

Andy Will, Chief Editor · Saturday, October 17, 2026

NGL Energy Partners offloaded 18 propane terminals, and the open question is whether the discount buyers are paying actually fits the assets or just the seller's balance sheet. For jobbers who move product through regional storage, terminal ownership changing hands matters more than the headline suggests. New owners reset throughput fees and contract terms for the haulers who pull from those racks.

A valuation discount on propane infrastructure usually means one of two things. Either the buyer thinks the terminals carry hidden maintenance or regulatory cost, or the seller needed cash badly enough to take a haircut. NGL has been working down debt for a while, so a motivated-seller read is fair here. That does not tell you the terminals are weak. It tells you the discount is about NGL's finances.

If you source from any of the 18, the thing to track is who bought them and what they do with rack pricing come winter. A new owner carrying acquisition debt tends to look for margin, and the easiest place to find it is the throughput and storage fees your supply contract already assumes.

Marble Falls

A propane truck accident shut down U.S. 281 north of Marble Falls, Texas. Road closures on a corridor like that back up deliveries running through the Hill Country, and a propane load involved means responders clear the scene slow and careful. One truck down does not move the national market. It does cost a day of routes for anyone dispatching through that stretch.

Montgomery Township

Police evacuated residents and businesses after a propane tanker overturned off Route 309 in Montgomery Township, Pennsylvania. Two tanker incidents surfacing in the same 24 hours is worth noting for anyone running a fleet into heating season, when load counts climb and drivers rack up hours. Neither accident points to a product defect or a supply problem. Both are the kind of operational risk that gets more expensive as volume ramps and roads ice over.

Evacuations around an overturned tanker also put propane hauling in front of local officials and insurers right when carriers are negotiating winter rates. More scrutiny tends to show up as higher premiums or tighter routing rules.

What to watch

Watch who ends up operating NGL's 18 terminals and whether they touch rack and storage fees before the cold sets in. The second thing to track is whether a second overturned tanker in one day draws any state DOT attention to propane hauling as heating-season volume builds. NGL's next filing will also show what the sale did to its debt load, which explains the discount better than the terminals do.
